ZE Energy Raises €54 Million to Expand Hybrid Solar-Storage Projects Across Europe
Funding from Amundi, Demeter, and Sorégies will support ZE Energy’s renewable energy growth plans
French renewable energy producer ZE Energy has announced a €54 million capital raise to propel its development of hybrid solar power plants with integrated storage solutions. This significant funding round, led by Amundi Transition Énergétique, brings two new high-profile investors into ZE Energy’s capital structure: Amundi’s Core+ infrastructure funds and the Climate Infrastructure Fund, managed by Demeter. Sorégies, a longstanding shareholder, reaffirmed its commitment to ZE Energy’s model with an additional investment, joined by partners Marguerite, HTGF, and ZE WAY INVEST.
Driving Renewable Energy with Hybrid Solutions
Founded in 2019, ZE Energy specializes in hybrid solar power plants that combine photovoltaic systems with energy storage (BESS). This model enables the company to optimize solar production while mitigating market volatility, an essential strategy as the energy sector faces fluctuating prices and increased supply during peak sunlight hours. ZE Energy currently manages a project portfolio exceeding 1 GW in solar capacity and 400 MW in battery storage.
“Our hybrid model has proven to be a robust solution, enabling producers and consumers alike to address rising energy price volatility. With solar energy prices frequently dipping into negative territory this year, our storage capabilities allow us to capture and store energy, reducing exposure to volatile market conditions,” said Mathieu Lassagne, founder and CEO of ZE Energy. “This funding will enable us to expand our footprint across Europe over the next two years.”
Funding to Accelerate International Growth
The capital injection will fuel ZE Energy’s international growth as it expands into new European markets. The company aims to have an operational and construction-ready project portfolio of 900 MW in solar energy and 600 MWh in storage by the end of 2026. Amundi Transition Énergétique, one of Europe’s largest investment firms specializing in energy transition infrastructure, sees ZE Energy’s approach as a perfect fit for its Core+ investment strategy. “ZE Energy is at the forefront of hybrid infrastructure solutions that combine solar production with storage, a key player in our portfolio and in the decarbonization of Europe’s energy grid,” said Matthieu Poisson, CEO of Amundi Transition Énergétique.
Alignment with Climate Infrastructure Goals
Demeter, a major European private equity firm focused on ecological and climate investment, also emphasized ZE Energy’s alignment with its Climate Infrastructure Fund’s objectives. “The company’s hybrid approach to energy efficiency aligns well with our investment thesis. This capital raise will support ZE Energy’s continued growth both in France and internationally,” said Philippe Detours, Managing Partner at Demeter.
Ongoing Support from Sorégies
Sorégies, a pioneering energy provider in France’s Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, reaffirmed its commitment to ZE Energy. As an established partner and investor, Sorégies believes in the potential of ZE Energy’s model to deliver sustainable, cost-effective green energy. “Flexibility is crucial for the energy transition, and we are pleased to continue our collaboration, which aligns with our approach to providing manageable, local, green energy solutions at competitive prices,” said Frédéric Bouvier, President of the Sorégies Group.
Strategic Expertise and Partnerships Power ZE Energy’s Vision
ZE Energy’s team is bolstered by leaders in finance and renewable technology, including founders Mathieu Lassagne and Guillaume Brunet, alongside advisory support from BNP Paribas and Sekri Valentin Zerrouk. The company’s legal and commercial advisors include prominent firms such as Orrick, Clean-Horizon, and Tecsol, each bringing specialized expertise to guide ZE Energy’s strategic growth. Due diligence for this investment round covered financial, environmental, and insurance factors, led by H3P, AXA Climate, and Marsh, respectively.
About ZE Energy and Its Partners
ZE Energy’s pioneering hybrid solar-storage solutions aim to reshape renewable energy across Europe by combining photovoltaic power with storage to smooth output and maximize efficiency. The company’s approach enables it to offer green energy to end consumers and in public tenders, with a current project pipeline that includes over 1 GW of photovoltaic capacity and more than 400 MW in storage.
Amundi Transition Énergétique, a subsidiary of Amundi, manages nearly €1 billion in assets dedicated to energy transition investments, while Demeter, based in France and Europe, is a key investment player in sustainable infrastructure with more than €1.3 billion in managed assets. Sorégies, a prominent French energy provider, operates across the renewable energy spectrum and aims to increase its renewable investments to €1 billion by 2030, making the energy transition accessible across France.
ZE Energy’s hybrid approach reflects a growing recognition of the need for flexible, resilient renewable energy solutions. With support from Amundi, Demeter, and Sorégies, ZE Energy is poised to scale up its impact across Europe, meeting the demand for reliable green energy. As the company advances toward its 2026 goals, it continues to play a crucial role in Europe’s transition to sustainable energy.
