Sana Secures $55 Million Investment and Acquires CTRL to Enhance AI Solutions

New features and acquisition aim to revolutionize enterprise knowledge access through AI

Sana, a frontrunner in leveraging artificial intelligence for enterprise knowledge, has announced a significant funding round of $55 million, propelling the company's valuation to $500 million. The investment, led by New Enterprise Associates (NEA), alongside participation from Menlo Ventures and other investors, marks a pivotal moment for Sana, bringing its total funding to over $130 million. This funding underscores Sana's position as one of the world's most well-funded AI companies. The announcement comes alongside Sana's acquisition of workflow automation startup CTRL and the unveiling of new AI-driven features aimed at enhancing the user interface for AI in enterprise settings.

Transforming Knowledge Access Through AI

Sana's mission focuses on revolutionizing how individuals access and interact with knowledge through artificial intelligence. Initially emerging as an AI-powered learning platform, the company has evolved its offerings to include a sophisticated enterprise assistant. Today, Sana's suite of AI products allows users to index knowledge from various applications, generate new insights, and retrieve comprehensive information through intuitive search and chat functionalities.

The demand for Sana’s solutions has surged as organizations seek to integrate generative AI into their operations. High-profile clients such as Merck, Hinge Health, Electrolux, and Svea Solar have already begun leveraging Sana’s technology. Since the launch of its free tier in April 2024, which resulted in the creation of 100,000 new workspaces within six months, Sana is set to roll out a Team tier designed to extend enterprise-level AI capabilities to smaller organizations.

Delivering Measurable Business Value

Users have reported significant efficiency gains across various sectors. For instance, industrial firms have experienced up to 95% time savings in locating complex product information, while legal teams have reported a staggering 200% increase in efficiency due to automation of labor-intensive tasks. Additionally, internal HR teams are achieving over 10 hours of time savings per week by streamlining the onboarding process for new hires.

Peter Laurin, CEO of Piab, a company employing 1,500 individuals across 20 countries, expressed the tangible benefits of Sana’s technology. "We’ve seen countless powerful use cases and areas of efficiency since deploying Sana to our company. We leverage our AI assistants to enhance product information retrieval, sales argument development, and R&D support. The operational efficiency is real, and Sana has provided us with a quick payback," Laurin stated.

Introducing Advanced AI Features

Alongside the funding announcement, Sana revealed a host of new features designed to empower organizations in building custom AI agents for diverse teams and workflows, all without the need for coding. These advanced agents, powered by Sana’s cutting-edge retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) technology, are capable of tackling complex problems collaboratively, completing tasks across different applications, and self-assessing their outputs to ensure task completion.

Hellermark, CEO of Sana, emphasized the transformative potential of these features. "With Sana, companies can build AI agents that manage tasks such as filling out RFPs, updating sales opportunities in Salesforce, and answering intricate questions related to clinical trials. We are excited to empower the next billion users with these advancements."

Sana is also set to enhance its enterprise search capabilities, introducing improved ranking mechanisms for both structured and unstructured data. The revamped user interface will make creating and interacting with expert AI assistants simpler, while new AI avatars will make company knowledge more engaging and accessible.

Positioning Against Competitors

Sana differentiates itself from other AI tools on the market by being platform-agnostic, allowing seamless integration with an organization’s entire tech ecosystem. This enables Sana’s AI assistants and agents to draw from both structured and unstructured data, facilitating more informed decision-making.

Users have praised Sana's customization capabilities. Peter Jidesjö, Executive Vice President at Permobil, a healthcare solutions provider, noted, "Sana gives us full control and customization over the AI. We decide what it has access to and can tailor it to our specific needs for accuracy and quality. Within days, we were operational and had already seen 15-20% time savings in resolving tech support cases for our customers."

Strategic Acquisition of CTRL

To fuel its expansion and enhance its technological capabilities, Sana has acquired CTRL, an AI workflow automation startup. CTRL, which has garnered trust from industry leaders such as Stripe, Airtable, and Snowflake, shares Sana’s vision of augmenting human capabilities with AI.

Founders Omri Sagzan and Aviv Nahum of CTRL expressed their enthusiasm for the merger. "We're excited to join Sana and extend beyond knowledge retrieval, enabling AI agents that can collaborate and solve complex problems comprehensively."

With this latest funding and acquisition, Sana is poised to solidify its leadership in the AI sector. The company plans to use the new investment to enhance its global market presence and accelerate research and development in AI and user experience design. Philip Chopin, Managing Director of NEA UK, commented on Sana’s rapid growth, stating, "Sana is proving to be a game-changer for enterprises." As companies increasingly turn to AI to streamline operations and enhance efficiency, Sana’s innovative approach places it at the forefront of this transformative movement.
