Ferovinum Closes a £17.5 Million Series A round

The round was led by Notion Capital with participation from Shapers VC, Semapa Next and Ferovinum’s existing shareholder group

London-based Ferovinum, a funding and supply chain platform for the wine and spirits sector, has successfully closed a £17.5 million Series A funding round. The investment, led by Notion Capital, aims to propel the company's expansion into new markets and broaden its product offerings across funding and supply chain solutions.

Addressing Industry Challenges

The global wine and spirits industry, valued at approximately $800 billion annually, faces unique challenges including liquidity constraints, complex supply chains, and regulatory hurdles. Ferovinum's end-to-end digital platform tackles these issues head-on by helping businesses fund, produce, procure, and sell to global markets more efficiently.

Impressive Growth and Impact

Since its inception in 2018, Ferovinum has demonstrated remarkable growth in the UK market. The company has facilitated over £170 million in product transactions through its platform and achieved a staggering 1,000% increase in annual sales since early 2023. To date, Ferovinum has deployed more than £114 million in funding to support UK wine and spirits producers, effectively channeling capital market resources into the industry.

Investment Details and Future Plans

The oversubscribed funding round was spearheaded by Notion Capital, with additional participation from Shapers VC, Semapa Next, and Ferovinum's existing shareholders. Jos White, General Partner at Notion Capital, will join Ferovinum's board, bringing valuable expertise in B2B Software as a Service (SaaS).

This influx of capital will enable Ferovinum to expand its reach beyond the UK, with plans to launch services in the US and Europe later this year. The company also intends to enhance its product portfolio across funding and supply chain solutions.

Innovative Approach to Industry Challenges

Ferovinum's unique model differs from traditional lending by relieving the working capital and operational burden for clients. The platform owns and carries inventories throughout the supply chain, providing working capital and supply chain automation up to the point of sale. This approach leverages trading concepts from commodity markets to offer enhanced risk profiles, increased flexibility, and improved data collection for underwriting decisions.

Key Partnerships and Client Base

Ferovinum has already established partnerships with a diverse range of clients in the UK drinks industry. These include emerging independent distilleries like Holyrood Distillery and Port of Leith Distillery in Edinburgh, English sparkling wine pioneers such as Ridgeview Wine Estate and Hundred Hills Winery, and innovative brands like the canned cocktail company Moth Drinks.

Leadership Perspectives

Mitchel Fowler, Ferovinum's co-founder and CEO, emphasized the company's mission to modernize the wine and spirits industry: "We're passionate about building technology for the sector in a way that provides the rails for the most exciting next-generation of brands and resellers to succeed."

Jos White of Notion Capital expressed enthusiasm for Ferovinum's potential, stating, "We couldn't be more excited to invest in this industry disruptor."

As Ferovinum prepares to expand its operations globally, the company is poised to make a significant impact on the wine and spirits industry. By leveraging technology to streamline funding and supply chain processes, Ferovinum aims to level the playing field for small and mid-sized players, potentially reshaping the competitive landscape of this centuries-old industry.
